Will homeownership maker you happier? It seems that the answer is YES — homeownership does make people happier. A Bank of America study indicated that 93% of Americans who purchased a home felt they were happier by becoming home owners. In fact, 88% of those surveyed said that buying a home was the best decision they ever made. 78% of respondents also said their social life improved as a result of buying a home and that their family relationships improved, as well. And while we know that owning a home helps build wealth and equity, this survey showed that most home owners (58%) value the emotional equity of owning a home over the financial equity (42%). 70% of those surveyed said that they were more emotionally attached to their home than they anticipated being and 69% indicated it would be hard for them to move because of the memories they made in their homes.

 

2024 research from HomeBay showed that a resounding 90% of homeowners say they’re happier overall since they bought a home, and another 80% say owning a home was the best decision they ever made. 69% of renters say they believe they would be happier if they were homeowners. Moreover, 90% of homeowners believe their lives are more stable than renters, a sentiment shared by only 73% of renters.
