CHARLOTTE FILM FESTIVAL 2024: SEPTEMBER 24-29

“Being at a film festival reminds me of the power of film. The power that we have in our hands. Telling specific stories about personal matters can start the debate that is needed today, and that connect you with realities that you had no idea were connected.”

… Diego Luna

If you love independent films and would love to live near Charlotte’s Independent Picture House in NoDa, I can help!

NoDa (short for North Davidson), known as Charlotte’s Arts District, is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood, known for its rich history, arts scene, and bohemian vibe. Located just a few miles northeast of Uptown Charlotte, NoDa has transformed itself from a once-thriving textile mill village into a creative and cultural hub.

Evolution of Today’s NoDa

NoDa’s roots lie in the early 20th century when it was an industrial area centered around textile mills. As the mills closed, the area experienced economic decline and left behind vacant warehouses and factories. In the 1990s, artists and musicians began moving into the neighborhood for its affordable rents. Gradually, NoDa transformed into a thriving arts district, laying the foundation for today’s NODA known for its unique character and charm, keeping its laid-back bohemian vibe with walkable streets, boutiques, record stores, coffee shops, and more.

Arts and Culture

Located just 12 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, NoDa is best known for its thriving arts scene with its numerous galleries, studios, and performance spaces. Each month, NoDa hosts its “Gallery Crawl” on the first and third Friday of each month. Local artists open their studios and galleries to the public, allowing people to explore and purchase unique works of art. Street art and murals are also a signature feature of the area, with colorful and diverse artwork adorning many of the buildings. Check out the NoDa Art Walk. In addition to visual arts, NoDa has a vibrant live music scene.

Foodie Haven

NoDa offers lots of dining options reflecting the neighborhood’s eclectic spirit. Some popular eateries, cafes, bars include Smelly Cat Coffee House, Bar a Vins, , Ever Andalo, The Goodyear House, Boudreaux’s.  And not to be missed is Artisan’s Palate, a combination restaurant, bar, and art gallery!

Breweries are also a major part of NoDa’s identity, with popular spots like NoDa Brewing Company offering craft beers in unique and relaxed settings. Then there’s the NoDa Craft Beer Trail which lets you stroll the NoDa streets enjoying a selection of craft breweries.
